Position Overview

An established accounting and financial advisory firm is seeking an experienced Cost Accountant to join its team on a fixed-term contract in Johannesburg. This role is particularly suited to a finance professional with proven expertise in Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) and a strong background in cost management.

The Cost Accountant will play a central role in analyzing cost structures, preparing financial forecasts, and supporting decision-making processes to drive operational efficiency and business growth. This is a hands-on opportunity to directly influence financial performance, strengthen internal controls, and ensure compliance with best practices in cost accounting.

Key Responsibilities

As a Cost Accountant, your duties will include but not be limited to:

• Cost Data Analysis: Review and analyze cost data across the business, identifying trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
• Budgeting & Forecasting: Prepare accurate cost forecasts and contribute to annual and quarterly budgeting cycles.
• Variance Reporting: Monitor, track, and report on cost variances, providing explanations and actionable recommendations.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with procurement, operations, and finance teams to streamline processes and optimize cost structures.
• Systems Management: Maintain and update cost accounting modules within Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
• Audit & Compliance: Support internal and external audits by preparing reconciliations, schedules, and audit documentation.
• Cost Efficiency: Recommend and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising operational effectiveness or quality.
• Reporting: Prepare management reports, dashboards, and financial insights for senior leadership.

Qualifications & Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ proven experience in cost accounting, preferably within a medium-to-large organization.
• Systems Expertise: Proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) is essential.
• Technical Skills: Strong Excel skills and knowledge of general accounting systems and practices.
